Smart ED: The Electric Smart Car.
Smart are launching the electric version of the fortwo in 2011, sosecure will be ordering the new vehicle for use in London. The Smart ED will feature a UK supplied Zytek electric motor and an advanced Lithium-ion battery pack supplied by Telsa, the US based electric car company that Mercedes has now invested into The benefits of Lithium-ion over conventional battery technology is that it increases battery life whilst reducing charging times. The batteries will sit underneath the passenger in the recess which was previously occupied by the conventional petrol tank. The Smart ED will emit no carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide or unburned hydrocarbons. Testing of the vehicle will be taking part in 2009-2010 but expect a range of up to 100 miles and a full charge in 2-4 hours.
